Common Systems Group

The Common Systems Group (CSG) is a technical planning oversight committee appointed and chaired by the Associate Vice Chancellor, Information Technology.

Name and Role

The name Common Systems Group reflects the role of the committee as UCLA's focal point for systems infrastructure, support and standards that involve coordination campus wide.

Role in Campus Decision Process

With respect to the Institutional IT Planning and Decision Process, the CSG is the System Sponsors for campus-wide IT initiatives. In this role the CSG is responsible for reviewing, analyzing and making recommendations on technical systems, support and standards associated with broad campus deployment of information technology. The CSG is the operational mirror of the Information Technology Board (ITPB) and the Committee on Information Technology Infrastructure (CITI).

Scope

The CSG scope is broadly defined to include technical architecture, support and policy (i.e. campus infrastructure) where there are benefits to coordinating on a campus wide basis. Scope covers infrastructure for academic, outreach, administrative and communication systems.

Function and Responsibilities

As the operational mirror of the ITPB and CITI, the CSG is responsible for informing and advising the ITPB and the CITI on technical issues by providing a forum for discussion and vetting technical issues. It makes operational recommendations on UCLA IT strategies and is a deployment and implementation resource contact for IT projects.

As a committee involving central and distributed IT Directors, it is responsible for ensuring coordination between distributed and central IT activities. The CSG assimilates input and recommendations from a variety of campus committees, e.g. web council, wireless implementation team, etc.
